Our meeting today was very productive. New MOUs were signed for:
[job descriptions and MOU] Elementary Dept. Chair(s) and…
240 minute minimum day - set 10 days for everyone, clarified language regarding completing grade preparation work off campus, protected grade preparation work days for middle schools, and provided staff input into determining additional minimum days per site
As soon as they are officially board approved they will be posted on the fcea.com web page under resources and linked in the FCEA News.
Several other MOUs are in the works as well including:
Progressive discipline and a rethinking of article 19.4 in the contract. Progressive discipline will document the process for a site supervisor or HR to follow up on non-egregious discipline items. There is a process but there is currently not a mechanism that tells teachers of the steps. 19.4 deals with complaints against unit members and we are looking at clarifying it and creating a more robust mediation option rather than going immediately to investigations or written consequences.
Teacher evaluation is starting to come together. Information will be sent out to everyone in February to share the draft rubrics, updated domains, and show some screen shots from TalentEd that should address many questions and unknowns from the Fall. By April, a third communication will come out to explain the pilot process and clarify how evaluations will be handled for non-classroom based situations for next year.
Overall, positive progress was made on all MOUs.
The school district did put forth their first bargaining proposal for compensation today.
Highlights:
The district is looking for a two year package for 25-26 and 26-27
They have offered 1-time monies to offset health care premiums for the next two years while we see how Nonstop develops.
They have offered increases tied to COLA but we disagree as to how the COLA increase language from last fall is interpreted.
FCEA just completed our survey and is waiting for executive board direction
Benefits committee is waiting on final numbers on premium increases from Kaiser and Sutter and the final reallocated caps monies resulting from going to 3-Tiers next year.
There are three more bargaining meetings on the calendar through the end of March so stay tuned for updates via the weekly News as well as the blog on the webpage
