Job Descriptions
Great news for our School Psychologists and SLPs. Our union is formalizing key leadership roles to ensure fair compensation and clarity. We're changing the titles of "Facilitator" positions to "Lead" to better reflect the scope of duties which are analogous to those of Secondary division leaders; this includes paying the School Psychologist and the SLP Leads with percentage compensation like division leads.
We're working to finalize job descriptions that accurately include crucial work like planning or creating Professional Development (PD) and mentoring new colleagues and maintaining a one-stop online reference for all members in that group. Like other leadership roles in our unit this will include a two-year commitment ensuring members are clearly informed about the viability of their role going forward. Your union is making sure your vital leadership is fully recognized and supported! 💪
MOUs
Last year we finalized MOU # 13, Special Education Intern Teacher Mentors to outline the duties and compensate our unit members who are supporting our Special Education Interns. This year there are 9 General Education Interns (there were 2 last year). Their intern programs require that they have a district provided mentor. FCEA created a new MOU to address the duties and pay for General Education Teacher Mentors. After discussion at the table, we have a few mutually agreed upon clarifications to complete and hope to have the MOU finalized and signed soon. _____________________________________________________________________
For the last two years, FCEA has been pushing to include Progressive Discipline in our contract.
This topic is coming up again next month on November 8th. Please read the brief description below. If you have a personal story you can share with the bargaining team, we would like to bring those to the table to help demonstrate why this is important for our membership. You can email any examples to fceaxo@gmail.com - please include progressive discipline in the topic line. Thank you.
Progressive discipline addresses lower-level site concerns; Ed Code already has provisions for incidents that require district investigation or oversight. By contractually agreeing to a series of escalating steps we establish a clear, uniform process that applies to every educator and is consistent from site to site. Progressive discipline is the foundation of a respectful and professional working relationship with administration. Progressive discipline provides due process, avoids arbitrary decision making, and ensures a process that is consistently applied at all sites.
