School Board Meeting Report: May 21, 2026

A lot of celebrations of our members and the rest of the FCUSD family do on behalf of our students.

[1:25] IVd. District Recognition Month: Jewish American Heritage Month. Presentation by Kate Forman, FHS Equity Leader, Climate Facilitator, and English Teacher. Watch the ppt and learn something new. [ppt]
[1:31] VIIa. CHS Career and Technical Education and Engineering Students InvenTeam Invention. The students in CHS InvenTeam and their Teacher Faith Caplan are celebrating their experience participating in the Lemulson-MIT inventor challenge that they presented in Cambridge MA in March. CHS is one of 8 teams in the US. They worked with mentors Margarita Dronov, City of Rancho Cordova, Zack Dowell, FLC, and Mike Pisarsky to create a storm drain screener and an app that are designed to prevent trash from reaching the American River and let city staff know the status of each drain through the app. They have received a 3 year k-12 pathway grant that Cordova Gardens, Mitchell MS, and CHS will be piloting next year. Watch the students representing the Mechanical, Communications, Apps and Electrical teams present their work and congratulations to all. [ppt]
[1:45] VIIb. Thank you to Student Board Members -Eveleen Lopez Patraca and Addison Luong. Addie and Eveleen have done an enormous amount this year to organize SAB (see later ppt) and have been deeply impactful on the board as you will see from the testimonials. Congratulations and good luck at UCSD and UCSB next year!
[2:00] VIIc. Heroes of Arts Education. At a gala presented by the Friends of Sacramento Arts in March, Vince Martini, Vista music, and Tamara Mosier, FHS drama, were recognized for their contributions to the arts. Executive Director of the program, Allison Cagley, came to the board meeting to celebrate them and the district’s commitment to the Arts. [ppt]

Annalee Mc Kinnon will be the new AP at White Rock Elementary next year
Eirk Nakagara will be CHS new head boys Bball coach
X. Organization reports
[2:35] Student Advisory Board - presented a ppt that summarized the work of SAB this year - events sponsored and organizational work behind the scenes to make it all happen. Approx. 100 secondary students participate monthly in SAB…building the leaders of the future and making sure the voices of students are elevated in our district. Official in-person introduction to the incoming student board member from CHS Nena Wallace. [ppt]
[2:58] FCEA President’s Report - Jeannette Sansenbach
[3:00] FCLA - welcome incoming president LeeAnn (Chilli) Childers as incoming president - first classified manager in the position and see the full board for next year on the ppt. [ppt]
[3:12] XIa. Building Community in FCUSD - Annual Community Schools Update. Community Schools are making tangible impacts on their students and families. Data presented to show impact on attendance and learning as these programs get established. Kudos to all of those directly responsible and their many partners in and out of the district. [ppt]
[3:24] XIb. School Branding Initiative: Updated Logo and Brand Designs -Angela Griffin Ankhelyi presented updated logos for the schools undergoing major renovations. [ppt]
[3:43] XIc. Full Day Kindergarten Schedule Update - this is a board requested follow up presentation from 2 of our kindergarten teachers' presentations at a prior meeting. Angi Carlomagno Andrade presented data on suspensions in Kindergarten and looked for patterns and context. This was not a recommendation or direction - simply a review of data. Board member David Reid pointed out the 1st cohort of kindergarten students with full day are now in 3rd and requested CAASP data. Board member Kara Lofthouse wanted additional teacher input around this issue. [ppt]
