School Board Report from May 15, 2025

  • [1:10] Presentations

    • In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, student from Mangini Ranch spoke about what school means to them

    • CHS teacher/advisory coordinator Yvonne Thornton shared a choice board created for advisory featuring Mental Health Awareness Month, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, &  Pacific Islander Heritage month and Jewish-American Heritage month.  Students from CHS shared artifacts linked in the choice board they made as part of a joint 10th grade MYP Interdisciplinary Project (social science and English) to create a CHS Holocaust Museum based on a virtual field trip.

    • In recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month, four officers from Vista’s Jewish Heritage Club founded in 2021 spoke about the work they do to celebrate and honor Jewish culture and traditions and sharing them with staff and classmates.

  • [1:24] Consent agenda - introductions of staff

    • Suzanner Borth, currently AP at Kinney HS, will be the new Principal at FCUSD Adult School

    • Noel Stedeford, currently principal at William Brooks Elementary at the Buckeye USD, will be the new princip[al at Folsom Hills.

    • Nereida Cabrera, currently at WRE, will be the new principal at Blanche Sprentz


  • [1:30] Recognition of graduating student board members:  Van Merrill 2023-24 and 2024-25 [UCLA]  and Mia George 2024-25.[[Fordham].  During public comments the new student board members were introduced.  Welcome to Eveleen Lopez Patraca [CHS] and Addie Luong [Vista].

  • [2:17] Jeannette’s FCEA President’s Report  - addressed FCEA’s counter, the importance of having oversight on district grant-related expenditures that affect our workload.  She also shared that continually having to hire 150+ new teachers, increases in absences and leaves all point to not retaining our members which is a cost in itself.  

  • [2:30] SRO contracts.  Per School Board request contracts reflect officers getting training and PD focused on the :”resource” part of the position.  City of Folsom cost:  $250,698 and Rancho Cordova PD/Sac County Sheriff:  $289,623.  Extended discussion about the cost, role and need for SRO’s in Folsom in particular.  Board requests to know how neighboring districts are handling this issue.

  • [3:21] Measure R & S (RFID 4) bond sales:  Measures passed in November for $144 million each.  March 2025 Board approved issuance of 1st series of bond sales for $36 million each.  Measure R financed at 4.41% interest and Measure S 4.46% interest both less than original estimates.  Bonds can be refinanced in October 2035.  See the presentation in the agenda for more detail.

  • [3:24] Preview of the comprehensive district facility review/plan video..See Van and Mia shine as they share our district’s strong points  This review will set the stage for the next 10 years of growth in our district.
