March 20, 2025 School Board Meeting Report

Here are the links to the agenda and the YouTube video of the meeting.

Below is the time stamp from the video with events relevant to our members.

  • 6:08  Big kudos to MRE teachers K. Hurlimann and T. McHale and their students Oliva and Cameron on the students' speeches in honor of Women’s History Month.  It is always a pleasure to see FCUSD students standing at that podium presenting with composure and well prepared/researched content.

  • 1:14 From the consent agenda, Monika Himmrich will be the Ed. Facilities Director next year.  She will be a link between site staff and the facilities/architects and other professionals on the many remodeling efforts starting soon.

  • 1:17 Item Q on the consent agenda [fencing at CME].  Board requested that it come back at the next meeting as a discussion item and Superintendent Swanson will arrange for more information to be prepared for the board.

  • 1:20 Presentation:  Marzano High Reliability Schools recognition.  Congratulations to CHS, CME, Mitchell, Vista, Navigator, Oak Chan and Sutter  for successfully completing  Level 1 certification and to FMS for being certified at Level 2.  Checkout the ppt to see more about this process and for what these and other sites are continuing to work on going forward.

  • 1:30 Presentation:  Mills Middle School regarding its Tier 3 SIPPS intervention efforts begun last year and the already visible results as well as the modifications they are making this year to help their students achieve even more.  In particular, check out the student testimonial video in the ppt.  After the presentation, board members called out their appreciation of the school and staff who’ve helped their students improve their literacy and noted that the community at large is recognizing all the great work being done at Mills.  Kudos.

  • 2:10 Tony Ruiz spoke for FCEA during the organization reports.  He highlighted all of the extra things our members are doing outside of the obvious classroom work.  Tony also made clear FCEA’s belief that there are resources available to support our bargaining position.  The district’s priority needs to be on surviving current students and appropriately paying the adults who work with the students is how we best serve our current students.

  • 2:13 Canen Peterson spoke for FCLA and shared that ACSA Region 3 has recognized two district administrators:  Amy Strawn (CHS Principal) is the ACSA Region 3 administrator of the year for secondary and Hunt Lin is the SPED administrator of the year.
