June 18, 2025: Regular Board Mtg Report

  • [1:13] Four items were pulled from the consent agenda and will be detailed next.  All 4 items were passed after public comment 4-0.  Three new introductions/announcements  were made for people changing positions or rejoining FCUSD in 2025-26.

    • Phil Leonhardt:  new Principal at Vista del Lago HS.  Most recently Phil has been an AP at Ponderosa HS.  Prior to that Phil was a math teacher and intervention coordinator at Vista.

    • Shawn Hunter:  new Assistant Principal at Vista.  Currently Shawn is the PE department lead and AD at Vista.

    • Dr. Jennifer Sandfort:  New Assistant Principal at Cordova Villa.  Currently Jennifer is an instructional coach at Cordova Meadows.

    • VII e (pulled by community member)  Revised MS and HS Course Outlines

      • Speakers  noted college enrollment option for HS students and expressed hope that this is well advertised to students

    • VII f  (pulled by community member)  2025-26 Curricular offerings and Textbook Guide

      • Speakers noted there wasn’t identified textbooks/resources for jazz course and expressed the need for standardized curriculum

    • VII i   (pulled by community member) Approval of 25-26 LCAP 

      • Speakers expressed concern that the revised MS math program was in conflict with an LCAP goal

    • [1:39] VII m (pulled by board member YK Chalamcherla)

      • Mr. Chalamcherla noted the many job descriptions that included “safety” in the descriptions and shared the observations he had of unsafe parking lot situations before and after school.

  • FCEA did not offer a report.

  • [1:56] Board Member David Reid read into the record on behalf of himself and board member Jennifer Laret the results from the June 8th board facilities committee that was following up to concerns regarding large contracts for building new schools that arose at the May 25th school board meeting.  The new guidelines will be applied to the item pertaining to the new Folsom MS/HS and return to the board in the Fall.

  • [2:01] Public Hearing item XI followed by Discussion/Action of SELPA Plan item VIIa 

    • FCEA President Jeannette Sansenbach expressed concern that the SELPA Plan’s listed committee members did not meet their own defined requirements, in particular, lacked a general ed teacher.  School Board members shared her concern and directed staff to ensure in the future meet their own definitions.

  • [2:14] Presentation and adoption of the new 5th grade health curriculum (ppt)  thank you to all members as well as families and other staff who participated in the piloting and selection/recommendation of the new programs to comply with current state law

  • Note:  XII f “consideration and possible approval of Superintent’s Employment Agreement” was pulled from the agenda.  The board returned to closed session after this meeting to continue working on this item.

  • [2:32] Elena Cabrera presented our LCAP self reported local indicators (see slide 4 for a quick overview of state indicators and local indicators of our 8 LCFF priorities).  Metrics were from CA healthy kids survey results as well as self-assessed results.

  • [2:59]  Matt Washburn asked by the board to in a previous meeting to present  to the board information about district herbicide use

  • Information items were included in the agenda with pdfs (linked in the agenda) but were not discussed by the board.

  • [3:09] Superintendent’s report - Erik Swanson reflected on his first year with FCUSD.  Included in that was district collective commitments, what he referred to as the “FC Way”:

    • Care for people

    • Coach and be coachable

    • Adapt, adopt, and abandon practices

    • Be Curious

    • Be Accountable

  • Next meetings:  A July 10th meeting was added to complete what was started at the Special Board of Ed. meeting on June 10th.  Otherwise the next regular board meeting will be in August.
